NISSOS MYKONOS: The Greek diamond of the Aegean Sea!!..

    Our trip begins..

Arxipelagos team had the chance to travel on board on July 11th 2014 in the summery route from Piraeus to Syros, Mykonos, Evdilos Ikarias and Karlovassi in Samos isl.

Due to the long daily trip, there were on board two shifts of Masters and Chief Engineers in order both Master and Chief Engineer have enough hours of rest. The ship was leaving at 8:05 from Piraeus and was returning to the Major Port in 1:30 early morning on the next day.

On the bridge of Nissos Mykonos..

On the bridge we were welcomed by Master Cpt Vaggelis Arathimos from Tinos and by second Master Cpt Stelios Karvelis from Skopelos who was few days on board and he was really impressed by the "tool" as he called the ship. They both gave us a joint interview in a beautiful area, lounge vip, which offers special amenities with beautiful sofas, with leather and wooden trim, large TV and incredible comfort! An area inspired by mr. Gerasimos Strintzis, which is used only for special occasions and is not accessible to ordinary passengers.

In the team of bridge are also Staff Captain cpt Marios Pelekis from Tinos, Chief Officer cpt Alexandros Sapounas from Karlovassi, Second Officers mr. Nektarios Klonos and mr. Aggelos -Theofanis Liontas and Apprentice Deck Officers mr. Meletios Routis and mrs Calliope Tsoukali.

The area of the bridge not only impresses but pleasantly surprises knowing that everything has been installed by greek hands with great scholastic attention to detail, responsibility and endless pride that characterizes every Greek worker of the historical Skaramagkas shipyard. Indeed, finishing is excellent, the construction materials qualitative and with no vibrations! The ship is being observed by the famous Italian classification society RINA.

Nissos Mykonos' total length is 141m. , its beam 21m. and its draught 5,3 m.

The special hull of the ship, as Captain Vangelis explains in the interview, looks like dolphin that starts from the bulb and leads to the duck tail of the stern, gives a unique planing to the ship and higher speed while greywater are coming beautifully laid and impressively out.

    Engine Room.

Going down to the heart of the ship, a few meters under the sea surface, we are entering the large engineroom where that are hidden in row 4 main engines WΔRTSILΔ, three Electric Generators (WΔRTSILΔ), the stabilizers of Fincantieri and the rest of the mechanical equipment. Comfortable areas, clean and very elaborate with excellent servicing of their equipment. We were welcomed by two Chief Engineers mr. Vaggelis Syrigos from Thirasia and mr. Dionisis Chionis rom Kefalonia. They both gave us a joint interview for Arxipelagos.com inside the control room. Nissos Mykonos' cruising speed varies between 25 and 25.4 knots, while its maximum reaches 28. Its quick speeding up is impressive from stand by, a fact attributed to the huge horsepower.

In the team of engine room are also Staff Engineer mr. Emmanuel Lantzakis, Second Engineer mr. Christos Asklipios Nikitakis, Third Engineer mr. Ioannis Marinakis, Third Engineer mr. Eleni Lytra and Apprentice Purser mr. Ioannis Manolakos. Mr. Giorgios Tsirigotis, Assistant Chief Steward, assists Chief Steward in his difficult work along with a great team of stewards and assistants, among them we met our good friends, mr. Fanis Diotis, steward that we met at Nissos Rodos' tribute and assistant mr. Dimitris Papageorgiou, son of well known cpt Diamantis Papageorgiou, that was the first day in his new job,
the first start! We wish him to be strong!

    Interiors

The ship has in total 9 decks. The main garage is on deck 3. There are two below-deck garage on deck 1 and 2. The areas of garage are approximately till half deck 5. On deck 5 from the middle to the bow, there are cabins. Deck 6 is mainly the deck of public areas. Except the Reception and
the Accounting Department, there are the Aegean Lounge with airseats, the main Central Lounge approximately in the middle of the ship with shops “Agora” and the Self Service - Snack Bar. We met there mr. Konstantinos Vaggelis who is the Provision Master. We also met there mr. Emmanouel Paravalos, who is Chief Cook, with the magnificent gastronomic creations being prepared by himself and his experienced team: mr. Panagiotis Stohikidis A' Cook, mr. Minas Minogiannis B' Cook, mr. Spiridon Lagodontis B' Cook, mr. Menelaos Pinakis third Cook and mr. Lyssandros Chouliaris third Cook.

    The experienced team of Galley

Going fore to the Deck 6, we enter the comfortable A' class of the ship with the large Atrium Lounge, which in a large atrium is associated by a staircase with the Panorama Lounge which is located directly above and features leather numbered airseats. Atrium Lounge is extended forward so lucky passengers enjoy the unlimited view through the large fore windows. On Deck 7 are cabins, some of which are right under the bridge. There is also the special VIP Lounge we mentioned earlier.

Nissos Mykonos has in total 104beds which are distributed in 31 cabins. In the middle of the ship, there are the Rainbow Lounge with numbered airseats and lovely view from large windows and the area offering view to the magnificent greywater and also protected from winds, the Three Dolphins Bar, a name inspired by the Hellenic Seaways' signal with three dolphins on a red background!

    Boatswain and his team

Going down to thew ramp, we met boatswain mr. Giannis Tsoukalas, who along with his assistants, mr. Samis Velis and mr. Konstantinos Tsoukalas and the rest team ensure the quick loading and unloading but also everything that happens in every inch on each deck of the ship.

    FOR THE END..

Our trip – tribute to Nissos Mykonos ends here..!
However the beautiful Greek ship continues to “cut” the waters of Aegean Sea offering unique experiences both to travelers and residents of the islands!

We wish Nissos Mykonos having nice trips, until we meet again!!
